c) To Discuss Town Hall Works
Quotations received for remedial works, which as expected are quite significant. £21680 and this did not include preparation works or what may be found once checks for dry rot had been made. Drainage and roof concerns, and although floor condition in places was poor, it was largely sound. After discussions with the main concerns over safety and if the TH would need to be closed for any future events, it was resolved to:
• Commence works detailed in the report
• Instruct structural engineer for internal works and to carry out their recommendations.
• Instigate an Asbestos report
• Have full drain survey carried out
• Check gutters
• Advise Town Hall Management Committee of course of action.
Delegated powers given to Chair and Clerk to take this forward. Proposed Cllr Elston seconded Cllr Jarvis.
Internal works to commence as soon as possible to replace floor in storeroom and then proceed to external works.
Although PC has a duty of care of building, there were no immediate safety issues for closure of the hall, just some vulnerable zones.
The works will have large financial implications, but Town Hall Management Committee had indicated a willingness to contribute.
d) To Discuss Dame Sarah Swift
Report indicated several unsafe pieces of equipment, including new gym equipment. Whilst it was agreed the skate ride should stay; the remaining equipment, if safe, could be removed and put in Town Hall.
